Bimmer论坛上,一个澳洲车主的针对30d和40i的回复,很实在。
There is nothing wrong with the 30d Diesel motor, BMW makes one of the best Diesel motors in the world. We have good quality Diesel fuels here in Australia, and what many people dont realise is fuel quality has a lot to do with how reliable your Diesel is in the long term.
In my 30d I get between 8-9 litres/100km around town (that's 26-30mpg), and its highly efficient, quite and smooth. The Torque you get out of this motor is immense, and there is no turbo lag. This isn't a Hyundai, Toyota or Nissan "clacker...clacker" Diesel.
With the 40i, you will find you need to plant your foot on the accelerator to get the same responsiveness and takeoff. Yes its ultimately faster to 100km/h from stand-still, but the engine will be revving alot higher - which equals more fuel consumption & $$$. You will be lucky to get less than 14-15 litres/100km around town, and remember you will need PREMIUM UNLEADED.
There is a really good comparison of the two motors here:

Ultimately it depends on what you're after from your drive.
If you do any towing, go away on long drives, and want something really smooth that isn't going to hurt your wallet, go the 30d, or even 40d (I am not sure if they've released that in Australia yet??).
If you want straight-line performance, do a lot of short trips around town or mainly city driving, and don't mind visiting the servo for petrol more often (for PREMIUM UNLEADED too), go the 40i.
Either way, you're on a winner with this SUV, you'll love it. Best of luck in your choice !
