Let me share you some experience as completed JD in 2016 after 6 years of study.
The most difficult year was year one. If you can pass first year, you have a good chance completing it. So, what was the first year like? It was lots of readying, and more reading. No spare time for myself, or anything else. Basically, all my time was occupied by study apart from sleeping and eating.
Year 2, suddenly became easier as I started to have friends who you can ask for help (eg. you got stuck in a particular topic.) But, study was very busy. Lots of readying, and weekly tutorial. At my Uni, tutorial participation was marked every week. If you didn't prepare for it / didn't speak up, then, you could be given a very low mark or even 0. This leads to greater risk of failing the subject.
Now with COVID, most of the classes/tutorial are moving to online. There are pro and cons. I can imagine that it becomes harder to form study groups which is critical to past the law school.
Further job perceptive, it is pretty handwork for the first 2 years after college of law. It is not unusual you have to work 10-12 hours a day in a law firm. Once you're in year 5-7, money becomes a lot better but again long working hours and stress. |
