1. Kids usually caught all virus once they started attending cc - when they are sick, you can not send them to cc - so the most ideal is book them for 2-3 days/wk at the beginning. If you book for 5days/wk, it would be waste of money when your baby is absent due to sickness - remember you still have to pay regardless attend or not.
2. If you do not have backup person looking after kids - you or your hubby will have to ask days off from work. Full time working means you will need to ask more days off, especially if you just started a new job, there may not be much sick leave available yet. Unless if your hubby can take turn with you.
Taking me as an example: I am working 4 days/wk (Part-time), and my hubby is academic so he has flexibility in terms of work hours, but still, when our daughter just started attending cc, during the first 2 months, she was probably just able to attend half of the days (book her in for 2 days/wk). Luckily we had parents-in-law came to visit during the first month to look after her; but the second month was a nightmare, as my husband and I are taking turns staying at home looking after her. I feel lucky as my company is famours for its family-friendly environment, and I got full support from my manager and colleagues to access my carer leave whenever I want it, even in the last minute. If not, I guess my only way to deal with it is probably to resign.
Conclusion: If you do not have other family support available locally, it is better to work on a part-time basis as a transition period. Once your baby is fully settling at the childcare, you may increase his/her days there and start considering working full-time. |
