My kid is in public school, his reading level was higher than same age kids when started Kindy. The reading homework he had met his level, but sometimes was still harder for him to understand as it covered a wide range of backgrounds such as history, nature and science. Sometimes I read altogether with him tried to explain details. For something like involves history I even asked teacher to allow another week to help him understand. As I know, our school assigns reading homework based on kids levels.
But library is different. The books he chose were all depends on his interested, sometimes were picture books, sometimes were chapter books and sometimes empty bag because no interests. He did complained about the books can be chosen from his grade was a bit easy or boring.
You can talk to teacher for your concerns, school reading in young age is to raise their interests, our teacher asked kid to read everyday even he finished in one day, but still kept reading through the week. |
