Crabs
(all species except giant crabs and european shore crabs)
Minimum legal size: no minimum
Bag/possession limit: Total limit of 30 crabs or 1 lit
Dimensions: A hoop net is a cylindrical net open at the top, consisting of 1 or 2 hoops not exceeding 77cm in diameter. The net must not have a drop of more than 50cm.
Labelling: Hoop nets must have a tag attached that remains above the water's surface with the angler's name and address clearly labelled.
Species: Rock lobster and crabs may be taken with hoop nets in marine waters. Catch limits apply.
Number permitted: A maximum of 2 labelled hoop nets in combination with open top lift nets may be used in inland waters, except the following waters where a maximum of only 5 are permitted:
Carrol's Creek, Glenelg River system (excluding Rocklands Reservoir), Goulburn River system (excluding Lake Eildon), Kiewa River system, Latrobe River system, Mitta Mitta River system (excluding Lake Dartmouth), Ovens River system, Ryans Creek, Tarra River system, Waranga Basin, and Wodonga Creek including any tributary stream flowing into those waters and any impoundment on those waters.
Closed season: Each year, from 15 September to 15 November (inclusive) you must not use a hoop net in any marine water other than Port Phillip Bay, Western Port, the Gippsland Lakes or any inlet of the sea. |
