Who knows about PMP?

I'm just wondering do we have any PMP certified people here...
If you don't know what I'm talking about

Personally I think it's time to start transforming my career from technical to managerial, and it seems getting PMP certified is the best way to go at this moment. However I would like some peer advices since I've seen so many IT professionals here.

I guess it's a topic that many of us had thought about, talked about, and wondered about. Personally I feel a move towards management level positions is inevitable and should be tackled with an active attitude.

Of course there will be a glass ceiling. We have to crack it by ourselves, caus no one can do that for us.

Especially if someone is already in a managerial position please do not hesitate to offer some advices...I believe many people here will benefit from it besides me.

Thanks for the feedback man. PMP is divided into two levels, CAPM, Certified Associate Project Manager, and the real PMP. One can take a Project Management course and then get CAPM, but will need real work experience to get PMP. So for my situation it's pretty ideal because I can get CAPM now, have some credibility with project management, then crack into a PM oriented role, then get PMP later. That's the plan so far. :-)

When I was asked which direction would I choose to develop my career, technical or management? I choose technical. My colleague choose management and he is a project manager now. I didn't regret because I know my lacking of EQ.

Maybe it's a different story to you. So my suggestion is stay with your current employer. Make them realize your value to the organization. The boss will either ask you this sort of question or you can tell them your career objective.

It's really hard to get on to a different role in another employer with just a piece of paper.

问题是，对于IT的technical，知识更新太快。30岁前并不在意，30岁后，特别是35岁后，不得不痛苦的发现，学习能力大不如以前，转到management上，却几乎成了必然的选择。。。只是，不是每个人都适合做management的。。。

Prince2 是源自英国政府的体系， PMP是源自美国的PMI。一般来说企业里认PMP的多点，澳洲政府的不清楚。国内过来的应该有不少人做过TL，PM的，有PMP应该很多，不过登陆以后多数都做回工程师去了。

做技术未必能摆脱痛苦，周围很多中国老移民年纪一把还在做技术，整天抱怨这抱怨那。
