The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for the NSW coast for the weekend, including dangerous ocean conditions which will be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, swimming and surfing.
A northeast groundswell from Severe Tropical Cyclone Wilma will impact the NSW coastline Friday evening through Saturday.
Although only a small-moderate swell of 1.5-2 metres, it will be unique for NSW waters due to its long period nature of 18-19 seconds. This indicates a strong swell that will have long lulls between the bigger set waves.
These conditions will be extra dangerous for Rock Fishermen as the surf will appear small/calm for up to 20 minutes at a time, before a set of big waves roll in. Fishing spots on rock platforms/cliffs/break-walls which appear safe, may actually be highly dangerous when the set waves arrive.
Stay home in rough weather!
Whenever you fish, choose a safe spot. Dont fish alone, make sure you have non-slip shoes, wear a life jacket and never turn your back on the sea.
