It has long been a tradition at New Year's for the Vienna Philharmonic to present a program consisting of the lively music of the Johann Strauss family and its contemporaries. These concerts not only delight the audiences in the Musikverein in Vienna but also enjoy great international popularity through worldwide television broadcasts, which now reach over 50 countries. In 2011, Franz Welser-Most will become the sixth Austrian conductor to lead the New Year's Concert.
