To whom it may concern,
(Saturday, 5 of January, level one)
5:00 ,Tom came in and asked whether the soup was ready for Tessie. I said:” can you ask her to have some biscuits first?” He said : “No, she wants the soup.” I said “ Dinner will be ready at 5:30”.Tom said “She is diabetic.” I said: “ok, in 10 minutes.” Then Tessie came in and Tom told her soup would be served in 10 minutes.
5:10 I served the soup to Tessie.
5:24 While I was preparing the trays, Tom asked me to serve dinner, I said “ Not jet, because dinner is scheduled at 5:30.
5:30 I served dinner single-handed. While I was serving dinner in the kitchen, Judy and Tom distributed dishes to the residents in the dining room. Several times, he requested butter and bread which I supplied him with. I emphasized this was very busy in the kitchen and I was working on my own.
Tom collected the dirty dishes and left them on the bench.
5:45 six trays for killalea were ready to go to the residents’ rooms. I asked Judy to deliver them. She sent the trays.
5:50 some residents in the dinning room finished the meal. Tom then served ice cream. He found there were not much variety which he appeared to be unhappy about it and he said : “ Maisie, Can’t you go downstairs to get some more?” At that moment, I was very busy washing up the dishes from dinner. I said: “ It is not my job.” He said: “Yes, it is.” Normally, preparing of stock is done by the morning staff, and plus take into account, I was working single-handed in the kitchen and very busy at this stage. I didn’t have time to go downstairs.
6:00 when the 2nd trolley was ready, I told Judy to take the trolley, she said she would do it after she went to the toilet. While Judy was away, Tom had the tray to take to Nancy, he said to me “ why are the trays sitting there on the trolley?” I said “ can you deliver them please?” He indicated that he had Nancy’s tray and left. I needed to complete the work so Marisa was not delayed when she came. I continued doing work in the kitchen .The 2nd trolley still remained. Tom returned and saw it, he was very annoyed and asked me “why didn’t you deliver the tray?” I said that Trevor told me it is carer’s job to deliver the tray. Besides, I need to complete the work so Marisa is not delayed when she comes. He said: “ Trevor is not my boss.” I answered: “ But Trevor is my boss.” Then he left. The trolley remained there until Marisa came upstairs to set the table. At this point, I reheated the food in the microwave and made fresh tea for the trays. As nobody came to take the trays , I delivered them.
6:45 No trays had been returned to the kitchen, so I went to collect all the trays except Miriam’s who hadn’t finished her meal.
7:20 I left for home.
In this case, that seems to be some confusion on what carers and kitchen staff are required to do. Take into account that kitchen staff working on our own really don’t have time to go downstairs to get ice cream etc and deliver and collect trays. Plus, when I am serving meals, is it permissible for the carers to come in and get toast bread ect where previous request for these items has not been made? So meals can be provided in an efficient manner. Last, trays and meals are scheduled for 5:30.It is important that no request for early serving should be accepted unless previous notice has been given half an hour before the schedule time.
