This question has been asked over and over again. Generally you can't simply pay your spouse "Salary" to reduce income tax. However, you may use associate lease as a tool:
1. the associate (spouse, parent, family trust) registers an ABN;
2. if owned vehicle, or if new car to lease or purchase, must be under associate name,
3. sign an associate lease agreement amongst employer, spouse and you.
4. Employer aranges salary deduction, adds on GST, pays to the associate's account(could be your account if stated as agent)
5. Associate needs to include the lease payments as income, but may claim deduction and depreciation.
Hence, you legally paying the associate, not as "salary" though. Quite effective and normally you can pay over $15,000 based on the lease term. |
