Newcomer SHMH Developments Group builds in Eastwood and Penrith
by Su-Lin Tan
Shanghai-based newcomer SHMH Developments Group has made its debut in the Sydney residential scene with a 57-unit boutique apartment project in Eastwood in Sydney's north.
Vantage, which is already 60 per cent sold mainly to owner-occupiers, say marketers Ray White Projects, will have larger than average apartments with two-bedroom units at an average 90 square metres.
Prices range from $749,000 for one-bedroom apartments to $999,000 for two-bedroom units. Completion is due in early 2017.
The popularity of the project, buoyed by the proximity of schools in the area, is also confirmation the housing market is healthy and "normal" despite lower auction clearance rates in recent weeks, Ray White chairman Brian White said.
"There are no vendors on their knees," he said.
"Every time the market comes out of a frenzy, people use the words 'collapse' and 'being smashed' but the number of properties that will sell in 12 months will be the same as those sold during the frenzy."
While Vantage is the group's first project to go to the market, its flagship project will be a future 2000-unit masterplan project at the former Panasonic site in Penrith in Sydney's west.
Penrith Council, which is growing Penrith, originally knocked back plans for a mixed-use development by another developer, Parkview Penrith.
SHMH, which entered the market in 2014 in Australia led by general manager Jian Yao, scooped up the site alongside sites in Waterloo and Elizabeth Bay for future apartment developments.
The company has headquarters and projects in Shanghai.
