1. I struck out again. It looks like my cousin won't have any world series tickets to sell to us after all.

I remember the first year I applied to graduate school, I struck out too. But I learned from my mistakes, and eventually found a good school that accepted me.

Too bad I still strike out with the girls. None of the good ones want to go out with me.

"crack" -- as in "crack cocaine". "To be on crack" means to be high on cocaine.

when I say, "Are you on crack?" I really mean -- "Are you crazy"?

1. I argued with him because I thought that a book he's assigning us to read is no good. I guess I was out of line.

"to be out of line" means to speak or act when it is not appropriate, especially when dealing with someone who is your superior.

out of line, 意思是没有分寸,出格。

2. I really trashed the book he was asking us to read. I probably should have been a little more tactful.
to trash something, 是把什么东西说成一钱不值。

After the movie, they wanted to go to a dance club, but I bailed on them and went home to get some sleep.

I can't stand those two. I hope that this time they are calling it quits for real, so I never have to hear about them again.

shoot,这是一个惊叹词,表示讨厌,失望或者是烦恼,也就是有的时候心里不高兴,但是又不想用脏话骂人的时候用的词。
