Dear XXXXXXX,
The Institute has become aware that a system failure in an external supplier’s website has resulted in focus session leader material for two Chartered Accountants Program modules (TAX209 and AAA209) being made accessible in the public domain. This material included the assessable comprehensive activity component from the focus session worth a total of eight marks out of a possible 100.
This external system failure was quickly brought to the attention of the supplier and has now been remedied. The Institute CIT specialist and a security consultant are working with the supplier to ensure safeguards are in place before the materials for Term 3 are printed.
To ensure equity to all candidates and the integrity of the assessment, the Institute in consultation with the Academic Module Chairs has resolved to remove this eight mark component from the assessment.
The rigour of the overall module will be upheld as candidates are still required to pass both the non-exam and the exam component.
For candidates this means that the non exam component will now be marked out of 42 (not 50) with a pass mark of 21 (not 25). The maximum focus session mark a candidate can contribute to their non-exam and overall module mark is now 7 rather than 15. The possible 10 marks for the Unit Knowledge Quizzes (UKQs) and possible 25 marks for the Extension Project remain the same.
The overall module will now be marked out of 92 (not 100). To pass the module overall, candidates will still be required to pass the non-exam component (obtain at least 21 marks) and the exam component (obtain at least 25 marks).
The small number of candidates who have already completed their comprehensive activities, and potentially gained the possible eight marks, will be disappointed. However, ensuring equal treatment for all candidates, with no candidate advantaged, was the paramount consideration.
Candidates who are yet to complete their comprehensive activity are encouraged to fully participate as it is a valuable learning opportunity regardless of whether a mark is awarded.
The final exam for TAX and AAA is not affected by this external system failure.
An announcement on this matter has also been posted on myCA this afternoon.
Please direct any further queries you may have on this matter to me. We trust you understand the importance of maintaining an equal playing field for all candidates in the face of such an external system failure.
Regards,
Tracy Gower
