ICAS English assesses reading and language skills in a range of contexts: reading for meaning in literary texts, reading for meaning in factual texts, textual devices, syntax and vocabulary. Students read a variety of age-appropriate texts, including extracts from picture books, novels, poems, letters, diary entries, as well as other familiar sources. The texts cover a range of topics and may include tables, diagrams, maps and other visual information. The Year 2 ICAS English test paper will have up to 5 texts, with 35 multiple choice questions relating to the texts and should be completed in 35 minutes.
Mathematics
ICAS Mathematics assesses students’ skills and knowledge across five strands: Algebra and Patterns, Chance and Data, Measures and Units, Number and Arithmetic, and Space and Geometry. The Year 2 ICAS Mathematics test paper will have 30 multiple choice questions and should be completed in 35 minutes.
Reports, Certificates and Medals
This year, University of New South Wales medals will be awarded to the top scoring Year 2 students if the cohort’s performance is sufficiently meritorious. All schools will receive comprehensive reports identifying the strengths and weaknesses of their students’ performance. Schools will also be sent student reports and certificates of achievement including High Distinction, Distinction, Credit and Participation which can be presented to students at assemblies or at other awards’ ceremonies. |
