The free clearing house administered by Medicare Australia, is now available for small businesses with less than 20 employees The service is optional and is designed to reduce red tape and compliance costs for businesses when meeting their superannuation guarantee obligations.
How does a business register?
Employers can register online. There is a two-step process to register for the Medicare Superannuation clearing house:
1. To begin registration go to wvvw.medicareaustralia.gov.au/super and register the business’ details.
A user ID and password will be sent to the address registered within 3 business days. Once this has been received registration can be finalised by logging on to the clearing house (on Medicare website).
2. Enter each employees details in to the website. This information will be saved and details will be pre-populated each time a contribution is made in the future.
Small businesses that register to use the service will have their super guarantee obligation discharged when payment of the correct amount is accepted by the Government clearing house by the super payment cut-off date (so long as the payment is not rejected by the fund) ;
