Which signs don't apply on a public holiday?
A parking sign with any day of the week written on it doesn’t apply on a public holiday.
If there’s any day of the week listed on a sign panel (for example, 'Mon–Fri' or 'Sat' or 'Sun'), that panel is effectively ‘blank’ on public holidays.
It doesn’t matter what kind of sign it is – a green sign, a red sign, a disability parking sign, a Loading Zone sign, a Clearway sign, a No Stopping sign, etc. – as long as it has a day of the week on it, the time restrictions and any fee requirements don't apply.
This is because parking requirements on a public holiday are usually different to the day of the week when the specific restriction was intended to apply.
The following example signs would not apply on a public holiday, because they have days of the week listed on them. On a public holiday, you could park here for free, for as long as you like:
Parking sign stating: 1P meter, 7.30am – 7.30pm, Mon – Sat. ('Mon – Sat' is circled in red) Parking sign stating: 2P, 7.30am – 6.30pm, Sun. ('Sun' is circled in red)
