it is most overlooked, because it is mostly not applicatble. for most families, people just don't spend over $1,500 (Please God, let's keep this way) out of pocket for medical expenses. Bear mind, it has to be out of pocket, which means after medicare and your private health insurance reimbursements. and the 20 cents rebate is only starting on the number 1,501st out of pocket dollar. and all those vitamins you bought from chemist are not eligible for this.
9 out of 10, after whole year invoice keeping and looking at Medicare annual report, would find out there is not enough for $1,500. Trust me this is a good thing.
But for those less fortunate families. please note, the fees paid to day care for temp or perm disable dependants or retirement villages are also eligible for claiming this rebate.
Tips for saving a bit time.
if you are healthy single individual with no dependant, you should not worry about this, unless you have a huge bill for dentist, which is more likely to be cosmetic, if i guess.
If you are small family with less than 2 young kids, don't be too stressed on keeping tracking the medical spending, you only need to go through this trouble when you notice a big bill going out.
if you are a big family, and you are really struggling, you maybe need to start to think about this. and don't worry, if you have a big medical bill, usually the medical people are very nice, they usually would ask you whether you are aware of this rebate.
After all, trust me that you would know this when you need to know it. and God forbidden, let's never need to use this rebate. |
