Five Samoyed Puppies were stolen from a locked pen in Richard Demarco’s backyard.
Police are investigating the theft of five Samoyed puppies valued at about $1200 each from a home in Carlingford.
Owner Richard Demarco discovered the puppies were missing when he looked outside his kitchen window at 6.45am on Tuesday and could not see them or their parents Lucky and Ricky.
A neighbour in Parkland Rd reported hearing the dogs barking at about 1.45am when she saw a man at the side gate, who she mistook for Mr Demarco.
When he went to investigate, he found a heavy duty padlock on the side gate had been cut off.
Lucky and Ricky were later found roaming the streets nearby early on Tuesday morning and were taken to a local vet who contacted Mr Demarco after reading the dogs’ microchips.
Mr DeMarco said the animals were distressed without their offspring.
“It was lucky they stayed together and they were found,” said Mr Demarco.
“Lucky is very upset.”
The Samoyed puppies are valued at $1200 each and had buyers ready.
Mr Demarco had buyers for four of the puppies and had advertised the fifth on a website the day before the theft.
“The puppies were going to have their final needles and were going to be microchipped next week so whoever did this timed it well,” he said.
“I have phoned up the people who had their name down for these puppies and they are upset.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Castle Hill police on 9680 5399 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
