Like many others, I am presently looking for job, and I am trying to make it as a learning curve in particular the ENGLISH. Sometimes I like to copy some good pieces from the book, as follows.

Sometimes we just need a job. Any job - paid, volunteer, traineeship.
We learn something useful in every single job we do. We learn about different workplaces, different styles of management, different ways of doing things. We lear to manage and respond to change. We make friends. We extend our networks. We gain confidence. We meet people who are willing to help us, who believe in us. Even when we have a bad experience in a workplace, this strengthens us. It makes us wise and compassionate.

Learning new skills means being prepared to be a beginner. We may have doubts. We may resent feeling like that. We may even feel cranky. 'Why me? Why now? What's te point?' Of course, if we ever learn the answers to those questions, it won't be till we've gone the distance.

On the other hand, we might see learning new skills as one huge adventure, all part of the rich fabric of life, in which we know the general direction we are heading but we've got no idea what's around the corner. That's exciting!

What makes job seeking so challenging?

此文章由 神行太保 原创或转贴,不代表本站立场和观点,版权归 oursteps.com.au 和作者 神行太保 所有!转贴必须注明作者、出处和本声明,并保持内容完整

Job seeking is a new skill for many of us. It takes time and effort to learn new skills, and it’s not unusual to feel quite uncomfortable while we are learning and practicing.

Great athletes focus on achieving their personal best. The worst thing we can do is compare ourselves with those who are better off than us. Instead, we must let their success inspire us to keep going. If they can do it, so can we!

You have to ‘sell’ yourself. It means that you and you alone, have to convince an employer that you are the best person for the job. Of course, you have to know how to do this!

You have to know how good you are! For some of us, that’s a bit tricky, especially if we’ve always been surrounded by people who criticize us and tell us how hopeless or useless we are. The good news is that you can change the way you think about yourself. The key lies in knowing what your strengths are and building on them

One step at a time

You have to talk about yourself. Most of us have learned that we shouldn’t brag or skite about ourselves. We should make fun with comments like:
        Who do you think you are, the King of England?
        Life wasn’t meant to be easy!
        When are you going to get a real job?
Even people who feel good about their abilities, achievements and skills can find it difficult to speak positively about themselves in a letter, resume and interview. Yet, this is an important job-seeking skill. Anyone can learn it – one step at a time.

Anger is a call to action and we can use it to motivate ourselves to act – one step at a time. If you have trouble thinking up what you can do about any of the things you are angry about, leave a blank and sleep on it. As you go to bed say to yourself, “when I wake up in the morning, I’d like to have some ideas about what I can do about this.
