A fantastic and rare permanent opportunity exists for an Assistant Accountant to join our Accounting team supporting a portfolio of NSW Retirement Villages.  Reporting directly to our Senior Accountant – Retirement Living, your main objective will be to provide administrative and accounting support to 5 retirement villages where you will deal directly with our Village Managers.

This role holds a strong customer service element where you will partner with your Village Managers assist with budget preparation and preparing accounts.  You will also be required to attend Residents’ Committee Meetings where you will present the accounts and answer any enquiries from the residents.  Strong communication skills are pivotal for this position.

Your key accountabilities include:


Preparation and review of all account reconciliations monthly and clearing variances
Collating creditor invoices for processing
Preparing monthly accounts for village manager and quarterly accounts for residents committees
Assist Village Managers in preparation of annual budget
Attend budget meetings with residents committees when required
Raising invoices on a monthly basis for services provided to residents and villages

To be successful in this role you will:


Have completed an Accounting qualification
Hold proven accounting experience
Strong communication skills with the ability to present budget
Hold a basic understand of taxation
Studying towards a recognised accounting body (CA or CPA qualified) would be preferred
Experience in SUN or Vision systems (or similar accounting packages) would be an advantage

Position Description


POSITION:        Assistant Accountant – Retirement Living

REPORTS TO:        Senior Accountant – Retirement Living

BUSINESS UNIT:        Retirement Living Services

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Provide administrative and accounting support to specific external client villages
and provide assistance with corporate accounting and administrative functions for corporate entities.

POSITION DIMENSIONS:

Directly Supervises:          NIL
Budget Controlled:          NIL
Budgeted Sales Target:          NIL


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:        PERFORMANCE MEASURES:


1.        Ensure integrity of transactions in General Ledger by taking ownership of trial balance for specific villages.
        Preparation of all account reconciliations monthly, clearing all variances as required in a timely manner. Ensure transactions are recorded in compliance with applicable AU accounting policies, relevant legislation & accounting standards.

2.        Resident Accounting and Reporting.
        Collate creditor invoices for processing ensuring correct authorisation and forwarded to AP in a timely manner. Prepare monthly accounts for village manager and quarterly accounts for residents committees. Prepare annual accounts for audit. Attend meetings of residents committee.

3.        Resident Budgeting.        
Assist the village manager in preparation of the annual budget and calculation of recurrent charges. Attend budget meetings with residents committee where required.

4.        Fee for Service Invoicing.        Raising invoices on a monthly basis for services provided to residents and villages.

5.        Monthly management reporting.        Receivables / Trade Debtor report.

6.        Compliance.        Relevant compliance obligations are met. Safetrac and Retirement Villages Act 1999.
7.        Occupational Health and Safety.
        Adherence to O H & S obligations and legislative requirements for Retirement Living Services.

JOB ENVIRONMENT:

The position reports directly to the Senior Accountant Retirement Living and provides accounting support to allocated retirement villages.

The Retirement Living Services Business manages 16 retirement villages and 4 aged care facilities in Victoria and New South Wales, in total comprising around 1730 independent living units and 451 aged care beds. Each of the aged care facilities and 12 of the retirement villages are owned by entities within the Australian Unity group of companies.

The Assistant Accountant assists in providing timely and accurate accounting and administrative support to specific external clients, and also to manager operator entities, and works closely with other business and support units to obtain timely and accurate information.
