The internationally acclaimed Sydney Symphony's summer concert in Parramatta Park has become a much-loved tradition with local families. Pack your picnic, deckchairs and rug and join us for a magical night of classical music under the stars.
The 2011 Sydney Symphony in Parramatta Park promises to be the best ever. In the romantic surrounds of the park’s historic Crescent event space audiences will be thrilled, transported and delighted by a rich musical offering led by the internationally acclaimed Austrian conductor, Hans Graf.
The singing spirit of Franz Doppler’s double flute concerto is matched, glorious melody for glorious melody, by Grieg’s music for Peer Gynt, including the famous “Morning Mood” – so serene – and the exhilarating “Hall of the Mountain King”. Tchaikovsky is the third great melodist in this concert, and his joyous Second Symphony that takes inspiration from folk songs of the Ukraine (the “Little Russia” of the subtitle).
Rumour has it that when the Doppler brothers toured 19th-century Europe playing flute duos, they caused a sensation because Karl, the younger, would play left-handed – two flutes in mirror image on the stage! The Sydney Symphony isn’t promising either of their star flautists will try to repeat the stunt, but when Emma Sholl and Janet Webb team up to play, we’re assured of a dazzling performance.
Conductor: Hans Graf
Soloists: Flautists Emma Sholl and Janet Webb |
