Requirements to become a Chartered Accountant
In addition to successfully completing the Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting, candidates must meet the following practical experience requirements to be admitted as a member of the Institute:
•Three years full-time (or equivalent) experience in an organisation accredited by the Institute
Candidates must be in accredited employment whilst completing their graduate diploma studies and accrue a minimum of three years for membership.
•Mentored by a Chartered Accountant
A mentor must be a member of the Institute or one of the following overseas recognised bodies:
◦The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales
◦The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland
◦The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
◦Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants
◦A legally constituted State Authority in the United States of America (the person having
CPA status) subject to appropriate service. Also having a Licence to Practice in the state of issue.
◦The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants
◦The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (members of the College of Chartered Accountants)
◦The Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (only members who have completed the HKICPA Qualifications Programme and trained under an Authorised Employer/Supervisor)
•Demonstrated required levels of technical and non-technical competency outlined in the Candidate Practical Experience Activity Log
Candidates must record and show evidence via a logbook that they have attained 100% competence in one or across more than one (eg. 50% in Taxation and 50% in Audit and assurance) of the following technical areas:
◦Financial accounting and reporting
◦Management accounting and control
◦Taxation
◦Business and commercial law
◦Audit and assurance
◦Finance and financial management
Candidates must record and show evidence via a logbook that they have attained 100% competence in all of the following non-technical areas:
◦Organisational and business areas
◦Information technology
◦Professional skill
◦Professional values, ethics and attitudes
Candidates must submit a Final Mentor's Report, completed and signed confirming they have attained the required level of workplace competence to be admitted into membership. |
