here are mixed news coming out last night - but UK market had done exceptionally well which also pulled the overall European Markets - we have bought our 2nd banking stock this week - we bought into HSBC - for the reason that the massive capital raising has been completed and in our view, it is one of the best banks because of its high cash reserve, and potentially acquiring other banking units in Asia from other banks - such as Citigroup and many European banks.
This means we now hold JP Morgan, HSBC in international banks - and looking at Wells Fargo, and some of the European banks - some of my friends have asked if I should also consider Asian banks such as Singaporean and Tokyo or Hong Kong banks.
Our holdings in Deutsche Borse has also performed well - and coming into April, as per our tradition, we usually top up our managed funds on the 1st of each month - this time, we will be adding more our Platinum International Funds as well as other index funds.
It has been a positive month - March, both from capital gains and also from dividends - it shows that consistent investment really works and can be used to ride out of recession.
On the local market - we have been following Pharmaxis, the company said it had completed the first component of its Phase III international trial aimed at assessing the effectiveness of Bronchitol in people with cystic fibrosis. The trial started in April 2007. The company said it expected the results of the trial to be available later this month, with the primary aim being an increase in lung function for the patients.
This is one of the few healthcare companies in Australia we have been following closely as a one close to commercialize their products in the near future, other stocks we have been looking at including Biota Holdings (ASX:BTA).
I really think Australia has a lot of potential biotech stocks - especially in the medical device market - IBA is a good example, Polartechnics is also in production already, and of course, ResMed is always our favorite.
