Hi YZ, as far as I know, a 457 visa holder strictly speaking is an Australian Tax-resident, unless you're having a very special situation, like not spending more than 180 some days every year in Australia etc...There is a test with some questions on the ATO website to test whether you are a Tax-resident or not. In most cases, if you're working in Australia with a 457 visa, that will make you a Tax-resident. However, since you're only having the status as a Temporary Resident (under the Immigration Law), you are exempted to pay tax on income not with an Australia origin..such as bank interest earned on deposits made outside Australia before coming to Australia, rental income from properties purchased before attaining the TR status...etc..An very important point here is...please be very careful with the issue of tax avoidance with arrangements for income earned inside Australia due to this exemption.
