SEM 1 2014
June 2014 Taxtation - HD
I will do FR in next April and GSL in next October, give myself a break :-)
Dec 2013 SMA, FRM and EG - Credits
All the hard work has been paid off!!! It is not that good but better than I thought, as I ran out of time in the SMA and EG exams. Happy to share my experience.
(At work, can't type Chinese.....)

Sorry guys, I have been busy studying Tax for the last 2 months so I did not have time to reply or send emails to you individually. I will upload some study materials if anyone needs it. (Some documents are too big, couldn't have them all uploaded....)
I don't have Supreme study technic, all i can say is: study hard or die hard......
FRM SEM 2 2013
Firstly, Module 6 FX is very important. Many questions relating to other modules incorporate the knowledge of FX rate. You need to have a very clear idea of which drivative instrument can be used upon different situations given. (Eg: you are an importer or exporter? The future interest rate is going up or down? Whether you would like to pay premium or do you want to lock up your gain or loss..... Blah blah blah....)
Module 1, 7, 8 are more theoretical, use sticky tabs as much as you can so you can find the answers promptly during exam.
Overall, this subject has a fair bit of calculations in the exam, you need to farmiliarize yourself with all the examples in the book and in SAT.
Speaking of difficulty, out of all the subjects I have done so far, FRM ranks the last provided you have gone through the book and SAT properly.
My average time spent for FRM is roughly 1 hours per day the most. (As I was doing SMA and Ethics at the same time, and I spent way much more time on those two than the FRM.)

Taxation SEM 1 2014
I think i over-studied a little bit, I took 2 weeks off from work during easter and was stuck at home nearly day and night. Tax is really detail and has too many legislations, the most important thing is, you need to know how to use them in pratical situation. My problem is I couldn't remember all the things i have read through, especially Module 3 CGT. Lucky, there weren't many CGT questions in the exam and were not as hard as the sample questions in the book.
Exam day - I spent about 2 hours finishing 60 MC questions. I used the last hour to review my queries. Tax exam was not as hard as i thought but you still need to go through nearly every single word in the book to prepare yourself for the possible tricky questions.
To be honest, comparing to CA program, we are pretty spoiled. Looking at my colleague who is doing CA, she is being tortured by even more detailed study materials, fortnightly quizzes, assignments, and the final exams are very difficult. As CPA members, we should feel grateful. So as what I said before, just study hard, and you will pass ;-) |
