Ex-German national team assistant coach Holger Osieck has been named as the Socceroos' new coach.

Osieck, 61, worked alongside Franz Beckenbauer with Germany in their 1990 World Cup victory and most recently coached Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds to the 2007 Asian Champions League title.
