最近看到飞儿分享的找政府工的帖子很有感触。实际上找任何一份工都需要明白广告中的selection criteria,有针对性才能赢得后面的机会。
本人也是菜鸟一只,正在看书学习过程中,会陆续把书上自己觉得重要的TYPE出来,和许多同路人共勉之。
今天只节选了一章,希望能对大家都有帮助。
书是一本老书,但是我觉得对找工的人仍然实用,作者叫Ann D Villiers

一般说来,selection criteria是指一些重要的短语,它们标示出了这份工作你所需要的技能或者能力。大而言之,大概下面4类:
Background in
'Background in' is often used in reference to educational qualifications or area of specialisation, such as public relations, accounting, journalism.
Experience in, Proven record of
'Experience in' means you must have practical acquaintance with the matter, namely, have done the work as dictinct from observed it or had a side-line role. For example:'experience in costing published work', means you must show that you have performed jobs requiring costing of publish works.
'A proven record' means that you must be able to substantiate any claims to the experience or skills, preferably with outcomes that have been documented. For example;'proven planning, directing and organising skills', means that you must document what you have done and achieved in these areas.
Knowledge of, Understanding of, Awareness of, Appreciation of
这些表达经常用在government policy such as Workplace Diversity and Occupational Health and Safety, and to the specific responsibilities of the work area. 它们之间其实都有着细微的区别。
'Awareness' invovles perhaps the least amount of familiarity with a subject and can mean little more than a consciousness of a matt
'Knowledge of' a matter refers to familiartiy gained from actual experience or from learning. For example, 'broad knowledge of current and emerging issures affecting the industry' suggest you need more than a passing familiarity with these subjects.
'Understanding' is more than knowledge. It requires having comprehension of the matter and perception of the significance of it. You may have knowledge of a policy in so far as you have read it and perhaps even applied some sections of it.But to understand the policy means you grasp wuy the policy was established, who it is meant to serve, why it is important, and what the implications are for related policies.
'Appreciation' implies making a value judgement about the value or quality of a matter or having a deeper understanding of a matter. To appreciate a matter you need knowledge and understanding. For example, 'an appreciation of cultural and language barriers experienced by various community groups' would mean knowing what the barriers are and understaing how they operate, what impact they have, what is being done to remove the barriers, and having ideas for further action.
Ability to, Aptitude for, Capacity to
'Ability' means having the skills, knowledge or competency to do the task required. For example, if the job requires a person to produce correspondence, then the ability to use a word processor may be needed.
'Aptitude' suggests suitability for a task, or finess to carry out a task or role. That is, you have a learning towards a particular skill or quality, such as, 'aptitude for policy formulation in government'.
'Capacity' can mean able to or qualified to perform a task. There is some suggestion that you have the necessary skil or quality but may not have demonstrated it to any major extent. Drawing on the transferability of skills would demonstrate capacity. Examples of how 'capacity to' is used include,, 'capacity to analyse and comprehend complex issues', 'capacity to meet deadlines', and 'capacity to represent the department in liasion'.
此外,Qualifiers的不同Level也值得一提。

这三类都代表了higher level positions,必须有具体的例子来显示经验或能力的深广度。
其它的terms界限并不是很分明,如excellent, superior, outstanding, good, strong. 它们一般都介于Poor- Average-Good- Excellent.
