About the learner log book
Drivers under the age of 21 who obtain a car learner permit are required to complete and record a minimum 120 hours of supervised driving before they take a licence drive test. The 120 hours must include at least ten hours of driving at night.
Driving experience must be recorded in a VicRoads learner log book. Information that must be recorded include:
- the number of hours of driving,
- the types of roads driven on (eg. freeway, local roads),
- the road conditions (eg. wet or dry) and
- details of the driver supervising the learner driver.
A log book is issued to the learner permit holder free of charge when the learner permit is issued.
Learner drivers who obtain their learner permit before age 21 but do not undertake their licence test until age 21 or older are not required to present a learner log book.
The log book must be presented to VicRoads to be checked before the drive test can be taken. |
