Sorry to bother you because we need your help -
You may know the pending closure of Laurel Tree House Children's Centre which is close to the Footbridge & Margaret Telfer Building in the University of Sydney. (https://intranet.sydney.edu.au/campus/camperdown-darlington/child-care.php).
This child care centre, which provides support for many university staff and students is being closed because of the NSW government's drive to privatisation.
The NSW Land and Housing Commission and NSW Department of Finance have announced that they are considering selling the property as part of an asset review.
Attached is a copy of a petition request that the land not be sold. The sale will mean the closure of Laurel Tree House. This will mean a loss of 152 childcare places in the inner-city. We (concerned parents) would seek as many signatures as possible. Please note that the signatures need to be on a hard copy for the petition to be valid. You can support the campaign to stop the closure.
My son (3 years ols) attends this childcare five days a week and he has just finally adjusted to this new place after more than three-months struggling since the very start. Now he has established a very strong attachment to this place including staff and the environment, and I am sure there are many other families and children who are on the same boat as me. Closing this childcare is very distressing to me as a parent, to my son and many other parents and kids. To find an alternative child care arrangement around in this campus is a BIG CHALLENGE! I was on the waiting list for more than 2 years in order to get a spot for this child care. I can’t imagine waiting for another two years… Now I am asking for your support by signing on this Petition Form.
You can sign and return it to Councillor Linda Scott, GPO Box 1591, Sydney NSW 2001. Many thanks.
And if you like, please sign up and Like the Facebook page below so we can share information and see what options are available to the parents, kids and community. Many of parents refuse to believe that closure is the only option.
