It's difficult now to be a doctor via AMC pathway. You can visit AMC website for details. Basically, you need pass AMC MCQ and clinical exams (due to high demand, it will take 2 years' waiting period), plus OET 4B or IELTS 4/7, then AMC will issue you a certificate.
However, this does not mean you get a job. You will need to do job hunting all by yourself to find a job. The national medical board now requires any oversea doctors should not leave workforce more than 3 years before registering in Australia as well as passing MCQ and English test. So, it is actually a Catch 22. One of my friends went back to China to be a doctor again while waiting for job available here. Making things worse, tsunami of local graduates came out since 2010, more than tripled!!! Lots of oversea medical students, who usu came from Singaproe or Malaysia, could not find intern jobs and have to fill job vacancies in countryside, otherwise they would go back to their own country. The situation is not bright as before. Anyway, I still heard someone managed to find a job here or there, but luck is a key factor here now.
If you really want to go ahead, there is a VMPF in Melbourne arranging bridging courses for MCQ and clinical exams, still the best in Oz. I took its clinical one and benefited a lot, including the job hunting. But reminds you, things changed a lot now. |
