Karunesh 是一个印度名字，不过这位新世纪音乐大师是位纯正的德国人，本名是Bruno Reuter。1956年，他出生在科隆，从小喜欢音乐的他，在大学里却选择了图形设计专业作为自己的事业方向。不过造化弄人，毕业后他就遭遇了一次车祸，险些丧命。这次与死神插肩而过的经历触及了他的灵魂，他放弃了工作去了印度。在马哈拉施特拉邦的浦那Puna，他遇到著名的修灵大师Osho。这次心灵之旅改变了他，他正式为自己起了一个梵文名字——Karunesh 卡努纳什，意思是"同情，怜悯"。

从此，他开始了富含印度东方元素的音乐创作。1984年，他的第一张专辑《Sound of the Heart 心灵之声》发行了，并迅速成为"新世纪音乐"市场中销量最好的一张专辑。作为第一个把世界音乐紧密融入新世纪音乐的艺术家，他的作品赢得了无数的荣誉和尊敬。

其实新世纪音乐的大师还有很多，像范吉利斯和 Mike Oldfield等。

这种音乐的界定其实也很模糊，只是一种感觉上的区分。我个人更喜欢将新世纪音乐归入另一大类——世界音乐，因为这些音乐都有很强的地域特征和元素。Enya有很强烈的爱尔兰元素，而喜多郎是典型的东方元素，Karunesh 则倾向于印度风格。
