Plaintiffs who suffered damage in a fatal Black Saturday bushfire in Victoria's north-east are likely to settle their class action.
A trial was due to begin in the Victorian Supreme Court on today over the February 2009 Beechworth-Mudgegonga fire, but the court was told the matter was likely to be resolved by negotiation.
Justice John Dixon said he would stand the matter down until tomorrow while the parties continue to finalise a possible resolution.
Advertisement: Story continues below The fire burnt 32,000 hectares, destroyed 38 homes and claimed two lives.
The lead plaintiffs, Paul Mercieca and Amelia Coombes, are claiming damages for personal injuries and for damage to their rented residential and farm property.
The class action group includes those who suffered property damage in the fire.
They are suing SPI Electricity Pty Ltd, Eagle Travel Tower Services Pty Ltd, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, and Parks Victoria.
The case is being heard in Wodonga.
