ORACLE DBA
. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Tertiary qualifications in business, science, engineering or information systems discipline.
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience in application development.
· Formal training in the development, administration and tuning of Oracle databases.
· At least 5 years of Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design, development and administration of oracle database for large corporate information systems.
· At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a senior Oracle DBA.
· Knowledge of Application Service Provision techniques.
· Knowledge of the server environment as used in EnergyAustralia.
· Knowledge of Win2000, HP Unix, AIX, OS390 and LAN environments within EnergyAustralia.
· Knowledge of quality control and quality management practices.
· Knowledge and experience with project lifecycles and methodologies with an ability to participate in multiple projects concurrently.
· Experience in installing package based solutions in large commercial organisations.
· Experience in providing detailed advice and supporting recommendations.
· Understanding of risk management concepts and activities.
· In-depth knowledge and working experience of complementary technologies.
· In-depth understanding of Information Technology.
· An appreciation of quality and its application in solution development, deployment and operation.
· Experience and confidence in oral and written communications, negotiation and presenting to stakeholders at all levels.
2. FUNCTIONS COVERED
Daily Tasks
· Performance tuning and monitoring.
· Application development and support.
· Backup and archive administration.
· Problem resolution.
Weekly Tasks
· Monitor security violations.
· Data verification.
· Develop and maintain procedural documentation.
Monthly Tasks
· Monitor data growth and performance impact.
· Review tuning opportunities.
· Investigate I/O contentions.
· Review fragmentation.
Other Tasks
· Assist Technical Team Lead in the preparation and transitioning of other Oracle databases into IT&T’s management.
· Upgrade preparation and execution.
· Provide on call support roster service.
· Participate with the first line escalation process.
· Participate with project related testing activities.
· Develop and maintain procedural documentation.
· Provision of support and maintenance of additional applications as required.
· Develop preventive maintenance activities, supervising and escalating issues to service providers as appropriate.
· Liaise with the software/hardware vendors to ensure services are delivered according to quality standard.
· Manage and/or assist in technical aspects of implementation planning, training development, acceptance testing, documentation and deployment of Multi-User Applications updates and enhancements.
3. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
· The Oracle DBA – MUA reports directly to the Technical Team Lead. The position will work closely with IT&T management, and all sections within the IT&T department.
· The Oracle DBA will work with the IT&T Infrastructure & Security teams in relation to enhancements, change requirements, new interfaces and changes requested by the business.
· This position is required to maintain a close liaison with external service providers and vendors, as well as EnergyAustralia’s users on short and medium term projects.
4. THINKING CHALLENGE
This position requires an applicant with the ability to analyse and manage both business and technical issues relating to the Multi-User Applications and provide solutions to these issues, then recommend and implement the appropriate solution within tight timeframes.
The Oracle DBA is responsible for implementing changes to the current Multi-User Applications based on the requirements of Energy Australia’s Business Units, working with Developers, Systems Administrators, as well as Energy Australia’s internal users.
This position and its responsibilities have a significant impact on the day to day running and future viability of EnergyAustralia’s business. This position requires an applicant with the ability to analyse and manage both business and technical issues relating to the Oracle DBA, providing solutions to these issues, then recommend and implement the appropriate solution within tight timeframes. The Oracle DBA will assist user representatives in testing, trouble-shooting related problems, following through with the appropriate vendor to resolution.
The successful applicant will possess a capacity for problem resolution, decision-making and management in a dynamic operating environment with tight timeframes and high expectations of deliverable quality.
5. INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION
This position will require applicants to work with minimum supervision and operate independently to provide:
§ Quality information on solutions for application-related issues to all levels of the organisation; and
§ Pro-active support to users and assist in the development and implementation of new upgrades, developments and enhancements.
The position requires self-motivation and a high degree of independence of action, initiative and innovation.
6. SKILLS REQUIRED
· Demonstrated experience in the implementation and maintenance of several applications.
· 5 years of Oracle DBA experience for large corporate information systems, with at least 3 years at a senior DBA role.
· Knowledge and experience in application development and application performance tuning
· Ability to research, interprets and analyse diverse user needs.
· Ability to prioritise and support many applications simultaneously.
· Ability to resolve problems under pressure.
· Understanding of emerging technologies.
· Well developed oral and written communication skills, including technical documentation and presentation skills.
· Ability to interpret results and provide summaries to non-technical support staff.
· Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.
· Knowledge and experience with project lifecycles and methodologies with an ability to participate in multiple projects concurrently.
· Knowledge of and experience in the use of Microsoft tools, Lotus Notes, Web development and other analytical applications.
· Excellent understanding of quality control and risk management including disaster recovery strategies.
· Effective communications skills and the ability to develop working relationships with staff and managers at all levels.
· Good analytical and problem solving skills, including business analysis, design and process re-engineering.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
