Media release: Catch all the fun at the Lilydale Family Fishing Festival Monday, September 14, 2009
Victorian families can catch a new hobby at a free Family Fishing Festival at Lillydale Lake on Saturday, September 19.
The Acting Executive Director of Fisheries Victoria, Anthony Hurst, said hundreds of rainbow trout, including large ‘Premier’ sized fish weighing over one kilogram, would be released into Lillydale Lake just prior to the event.
“This will improve the chances of landing a good catch on the day,” Mr Hurst said.
“Additional trout will also be stocked during the festival and participating children will be able to help release these fish into the water.
“This is the third consecutive year of the festival, which attracted more than 380 children and their families in 2008.
“They enjoyed a range of activities including fishing sessions guided by members of local angling clubs, informative workshops with Fisheries Officers and knot tying classes with Fishcare volunteers.
“This year’s festival will include all of these popular activities and will be supplemented with casting clinics, cooking demonstrations, face painting, a caricaturist, jumping castle, Seaweed Sally’s marine touch tank, the ever popular Flathead Fred show and displays from local organisations such as the CFA and Melbourne Water.”
Mr Hurst said all participating children in this year’s festival would receive a free Go Fishing in Victoria show bag, which includes various products to get them started.
Lillydale Lake is one of the five Premier Lakes established under the $3.2 million Go Fishing in Victoria initiative, which aims to increase opportunities for recreational fishing across provincial Victoria by improving facilities and promoting fishing as a fun and healthy family activity.
Each of the five Premier Lakes hosts an annual Family Fishing Festival.
Families are strongly encouraged to pre-register to reserve workshop places by calling the DPI Customer Service Centre on 136 186. |
