Job Description: This IT Software Engineer will be positioned to support a 12 month project, developing a network management platform for a Service Provider customer in support of Cisco Advanced Technologies. Role will be performed in close collaboration with other members of the software development team.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Design applications involving multi-platforms.
• Design and develop new software product features.
• Contribute innovative ideas for multiple module architecture.
• Define product internal/external interfaces.
• Develop complex, multiple modules of code independently.
• Write complete functional and design specs independently.
• Write portions of product spec.
• Lead development of subsystems.
• Contribute to the development of project goals, schedules, and resource planning.
• Develop automated test plans.
• Perform complex system level tests.
• Interface with other functional groups (EQA, Manufacturing, etc.)
• Solves complex problems at the system level.
• Define product level test and simulation strategy.
Related Business/ Technical Knowledge, Skills, Expertise, and Specializations:
1. Engineer Specialty: Netcool, InfoVista, WebSphere, Nexus, TIBCO, or other JMS expertise
2. Engineer Specialty: Data Center Design
• Demonstrated technical knowledge related to designing software/hardware systems that have proper storage design, load-balancing, fail-over, and platform monitoring mechanisms (i.e. Veritas, Nagios, SAN)
• Demonstrated technical knowledge into proper sizing of hardware server or Operating systems in response to Network Management application performance and availability requirements
• Hands-on experience within a Data center or Lab environment in order in support of deploying software/hardware systems
3. Engineer Specialty: Performance Management
o Experience with and understanding of the techniques used within Performance Management systems to monitor network health and report threshold crossing alerts (TCA)
o Familiarity with industry-accepted tools such as Infovista or Proviso
4. Engineer Specialty:
• Cisco Network or Element Management Systems: familiarization with Cisco Network Management products such as Cisco Unified Operations Manager, CS-MARS, and other Cisco NMTG products is a plus.
• Alarm Correlation: proficiency in the mechanisms deployed for alarm-based correlation
• Remedy: experience with the BMC Remedy suite
• Netcool
Education and Experience
• Requires a technical or business undergraduate degree (or equivalent). CS or EE preferred.
• 5-10+ years as a Software Designer.
• Linux / Unix / Suse
• Managed Services - Service Delivery, Network operations
• Understanding and use of ITIL (IT Infrastructure Language)– Systems management, Incident Management, Change Management, etc.
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies
