Yellow Autumn Crocus
Botanical name: Sternbergia lutea
Family: Amaryllidaceae
Plant type: Deciduous bulbs
Plant size: 10-15cm tall & 5cm wide.
Depth & spacing: Plant with 5cm of soil above the bulbs and 10cm apart.
Watering: This bulb prefers a dry Summer but, in well drained soils, will perform quite well when left planted amongst other Summer-irrigated flowers.
Frost tolerances: Frost hardy.
Flowering time: Autumn (although this bulb may not flower in its first year in your garden).
Preferred soil: Well drained.
Preferred aspect: A hot sunny spot.
Ideal climates: Cool.
Pruning: None required.
Fertilising: Fertilise annually with a general purpose fertiliser at about the time that the tips break through the soil.
Uses & comments: Plant in clumps & leave alone so that they develop into very dense colour highlights for Autumn
