今天收到工会的信了:
Dear xxx,
We hope this email finds you well and that you are staying safe.
Our union is fighting to save jobs from the unprecedented revenue crisis caused by COVID-19.
The collapse in international student enrolments and reduction in domestic student numbers has left a $5 billion funding shortfall in the sector. This situation has not been helped by the federal government which has repeatedly failed to deliver a support package and has specifically excluded universities from the JobKeeper allowance three times.
The NTEU has been in intensive negotiations with Vice-Chancellors nationally to secure a temporary Jobs Protections Framework designed to rescue 12,000 jobs.
The Jobs Protection Framework will:
Save at least 12,000 jobs nationally.
Limit redundancies and prevent stand-downs without pay.
Help casual and fixed-term staff to regain and retain their work.
Protect all current jobs by putting a freeze on new appointments.
Protect superannuation, workloads, research allocations and leave entitlements.
Protect the integrity of your Enterprise Agreement.

Saving 12,000 jobs requires solidarity to protect our colleagues most at risk through temporary reductions in salary for some staff at the institutions worst affected. The Framework would allow universities that can demonstrate serious financial hardship to temporarily reduce time fractions and reduce pay within strict limits. The university must demonstrate that it has first reduced non-staff costs, and executives and senior management have taken a larger pay cut than staff.
A national panel of experts in university finances and a local joint union/management committee will oversee the implementation of the Jobs Protection Framework. This will ensure that universities only implement measures that are necessary to protect jobs and the integrity of the institution.
What happens next?
There will be a vote of union members in every workplace on the Jobs Protection Framework.
NTEU National Councilors – elected by members from workplaces around Australia – will also meet to consider the agreement.
There will also be a range of meetings and a national briefing where members can hear directly from the national and state leadership teams.
There will be a ballot of all staff at each campus before any agreement can be implemented.
We are committed to protecting the most vulnerable workers from the worst impacts of this crisis. The union movement has always been about sticking together and we believe that by acting together in solidarity we can best protect the most vulnerable among us from losing the most in this crisis.
If you’re not yet a member of the union the best way to shape what’s happening in our sector and save jobs is to join today.
Yours in solidarity,
Alison Barnes, National President
Matthew McGowan, General Secretary
Gabe Gooding, National Assistant Secretary
PS: We are ramping up our campaign for a real jobs rescue package from Minister Dan Tehan at our National Day of Action next week – RSVP here. |
