HERE'S a sleepy section of Mudjimba Beach known only to locals as a no-go zone.
Rife with groups of men having sex in the dunes at any given time, the beach has transformed into a "uncomfortable" scene.
One local who is in the know said the stretch of beach runs from the new boardwalk all the way to the Twin Waters life guard tower.
They say it is only a matter of time for an innocent family to stumble upon the activities.
"Basically what happens is, any given day, all day, there are guys hooking up. They'll walk along, have a signal and disappear into the dunes," the person, who chose to remain anonymous, said.
"That whole stretch of beach is well known to locals about what happens. They have wore a track right on the edge of the fenceline.
"It is a serious problem that is really getting out of hand, particularly with school holidays approaching.
"This isn't about gay people or me being homophobic, it is just creepy.
"I've been down there fishing and seen them meet up. Knowing you're on a family beach and people are having sex behind you is just uncomfortable."
The anonymous person said the notorious beach goers had created a website for specific meet ups. The men wear an obscure item of clothing to make the signal obvious.
They said it has escalated into men masturbating on the beach in view of families. A number of lewd posts had been made on social media.
Parking is already an on-going issue along the beach and the increased number of beach goers are adding to the problems.
The Mudjimba community just want to see the beach return to normal.
"Go and get a hotel room. We are not against gay culture but we don't think the beach is the place for it," they said.
"I am at the stage I don't want to go there knowing what is happening.
"Locals just avoid it. Which is sad." |
