Dutton says, ""If they want to conduct these sort of campaigns, do it online or do it in your spare time. Don't bring these sort of views into the minds of young kids."
Couldn't you also argue if people want to conduct Christian-pagan celebrations, that they should do it on their on time? Not force it down everyone else's throats.
Last time I checked we still had a secular state-school system. Strikes me that Dutton and co. have more in common with some conservative Muslims, in terms of wanting to promote religion in schools, than they might want to admit.

Mr Dutton can either claim that Australia is a Christian country or he can lock up refugees but he can't have it both ways.

Immal....Christmas is not actually Christian. Pope Julius I chose December 25. It is commonly believed that the church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions of the pagan Saturnalia festival(Beginning in the week leading up to the winter solstice and continuing for a full month, Saturnalia was a hedonistic time, when food and drink were plentiful and the normal Roman social order was turned upside down). First called the Feast of the Nativity, the custom spread to Egypt by 432 and to England by the end of the sixth century. By the end of the eighth century, the celebration of Christmas had spread all the way to Scandinavia. So the church borrowed it.....but there is nothing wrong if you want to celebrate someone's birthday on the wrong day.

The point with Dutton's beliefs and values is that he is extreme to the point of where he is beyond redemption. A man with his disposition should in no way be the immigration minister of this or any country. I don't think it matters that he is a religious crackpot clutching to his christian purity as a Queensland MP where this may be the overarching system of belief but Australia as a nation is a secular society that is changing all the time and it is quite unacceptable for a man that oversees what is a portfolio that deals with mainly non christian immigrants and refugees to have this attitude. He should be sacked because the majority of Australians have had enough of the rubbish talk that he frequently engages in.

I am no left winger. Religion has no place in a secular education system. We are not a Christian nation, we are a nation that has Christian followers as we have Jewish/Muslim/Hindu followers. Worship in the church and at home if you choose. Sing as much as you want. Jesus was not born on the 25th of December, Christmas has pagan roots anyway. I don't see Jewish leaders getting worked up that a public school in Bondi or Waverley is not going ahead with Hanuka celebrations.

Christmas is a stolen pagan event, used by early Christians to convert those pagans. It was celebrated for thousands of years before the birth of Christ as Winter Solstice (which was also not on 25 December nor in the year that we celebrate it).
