一直以为摔断腿这样的急病,是需要及时治疗的,有无医保都应该需要高优先级别。没想到澳洲的医疗体制是这 ...
There are a few things wrong with your comments.
1. overseas health system is better, compared to PRC, but it is in no way not perfect or ideal. Think about it, a health system such as Medicare is 100% government funded, i.e. from tax payers. Government has a budget, so it only allocates a certain amount of money every year. It's also a system that every PC/citizen uses, so it's quite normal for a public hospital to be short of resources (rooms, equipment, staff). This is where private hospitals are superior because of the extra resources.
2. Because resources are so stretched/limited in public hospitals, they have to find other means of finding funding, hence giving priority to private health insurance holders. In particular, NSW public hospitals even have a quota they must meet, in terms of having a certain % of privately insured patients. So it's not about making a profit, it's about having enough funds to run the hospital.
3. In the case of a broken arm or leg, obviously it is less serious than a heart attack or some other life-threatening situation. In terms of urgency, it's only fair that other more seriously ill patients are treated.
If you are disillusioned about being treated in the public health system, that's all the more reason to obtain private health insurance. Yes, there's excess and gap payments, but you do get superior care/service. It's all about what you value more. |
