:thumbup
“3H Program Reflection
Running 3H was an experience that was unique, allowing us to express our thoughts and ideas and act upon them by creating a program for students that was not bound by barriers set by other people. However, in planning and execution we were met with challenges which we had to overcome. This made me realise the importance of teamwork, and the qualities that are at the core of every team: flexibility, adaptation and communication.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. In a team, everyone is equal, not dictated by status or age. When Chloe, Xingy and I planned the program we had a clear picture for what we had in mind. However, when it came time to explain what we had in mind to the mentors we encountered some issues. Our vision could not quite be communicated exactly to the mentors, and much was left to their interpretation. This influenced the outcomes of the program, be it good or bad. A team player does not simply leave them behind and let them figure out the problem themselves, instead, explain it to them more thoroughly and set them off in the right direction.
Communication is a staple in human interaction, it is how we can convey our meaning to other people. In a program of such a large scale, we were faced with communication challenges. Whether it be language or the medium which we used, or to the people we were communicating with. Through the interaction with parents, students and mentors, I realised that the way that language is used is extremely important in conveying a message.
Through organising a program on this scale, we had to be flexible to accommodate the different needs of the students as well as the skill sets that would best suit the mentors. However, making changes is only part of making a change, learning to adapt to the change is the hardest part.
All in all, running the 3H program was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to mature in ways that I otherwise couldn’t. It also exposed me to situations that I would not normally experience. I hope that more people could be part of it ” |
