First, as you say, most people with mental problems do not have violence, not all of them. Can you ...
Before I study mental health, I was holding the same thoughts like you. How should we treat someone with mental health and probably violent? It is not a easy question. Let's say experts made many frameworks about when should lock them up and when should let them go. Well, most of the time, they are right. But sometimes, things go wrong. Those people may end up killing themselves, or hurting someone else.
However, because of the potential risks, we still could not lock all of them up for long. The reasons are that:
1. People with mental problems tend to improve living in the community than being "locked up".
2. The government cannot afford it.
3. According to the laws, no people have rights to restrict someone unless it is really necessary.
Sometimes, we are afraid someone or something is mainly because we don't understand them. I wound't say you are over worried about it, but I would recommend you to talk to the patient's doctor and know more about it.
I believe you would not be so afraid if understand it.
Thanks. |
