不愧是版主,一看就是IT资深人士,意见就让人醍醐灌顶。
这是个跨国零售业的大公司全球9万人,在土澳的分公司。从Global,APAC到土澳ANZ各级的IT Infra都外包到印度了。土澳分公司大几百员工主要以sale marketing为主,除了土澳总部之外,每个州首府还有warehouse,会有一些Infra设备要管理维护。
在澳洲分公司确实就是ANZ BAU的东西多一些,执行总部下放的Infrastructure任务,管理一些本地小IT项目,管理外包consultant,vendor management。带一个不到10个人的小团队,比如管理公司的网络,Meeting room视频设备, Infrastructure包括有几十Virtual server, 几个VMware host,几个router,switch 。。 维护所有IT 硬件, 手下还有个Service delivery lead负责管理已经外包的service desk,他们负责本地的几百个user电脑和iPad的IT support。
这个Infra Manager权限有限,没有Global和APAC Infra的登陆权限,没有机会参与决策Global level的项目,仅仅是执行总部下达的任务。。。Soft skill比重大点就是本地的不到10人的team people manager,vendor management, stakeholder engagement。也做些Capex,Epex预算,Infra budget decision maker,Manage the application portfolio and IT roadmap。
干两年能想到的Archivement就是更换了多少新硬件,比如提升了网速,更新了Infra服务器,实施了云端备份,更换了更先进的网络设备,给几百名员工换了新电脑手机提升了多少工作效率,手下IT support做的多好,IT给business 提供了什么value,获得business 方的多少的点赞。也能吹点东西,比如优化了Infra系统,减少风险,制定本地IT strategy提升多少business效率等等。
好几年前在里面干过Infra Engineer,所以对人和事还是比较了解的。
PD:
* Implement the infrastructure strategy defined by our global team for the organization's infrastructure systems, which includes network architecture, server infrastructure, storage solutions, and cloud services.
* Monitor and maintain the performance, availability, and security of the infrastructure systems.
* Lead infrastructure projects, including planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and coordination with stakeholders.
* Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the infrastructure systems.
* Collaborate with IT teams and business units to understand their infrastructure needs and provide solutions that align with organizational goals.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to infrastructure management and security.
* Manage vendor relationships and contracts for infrastructure-related services and products.
* Provide technical guidance and support to IT staff and end-users.
* Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and advancements in infrastructure technologies.
升职去总部还有机会参与global level的项目和strategy制定。但是机会较小全凭业绩,运气还有人脉。平级转到总部还是有机会的,不过意义不大,无非就是换个环境,待遇稍好一点。
仔细想想确实目前这阶段就这么两条路可走。
1. Manager -> Director -> CIO。 需要很多soft skill:比如management/leadership,people skill,communication skill。现实点,由于华人有天花板,能做到Director的人寥寥无几,多数就是Senior manager。
2. Tech Lead or Architect -> Engineering Manager or Enterprise Architect,技术路线走到底,但是也需要engage business,一半技术一半soft skills |
