Hi Guys,
It has been a while since I have posted anything but there has been quite a bit going on behind the scenes which I probably need to inform you of.
Unfortunately despite our best efforts the SEAL (GAP) program will end as of this year. Those students currently at BHHS will continue in the program, but we have been forced to cancel our Year 7 intake by the Government for next year. This is despite the testing already being completed.
We have had our numbers capped by the Department at 1200, which we are currently above and have been told to reduce numbers. We have been limited to 200 year 7 students from next year, meaning we will have to cut two planned SEAL classes for out of zone students (who have been the backbone of our program for 24 years). There will be approximately one class of SEAL equivalent students from within our zone.
We have been told at this stage we will not get anymore buildings, despite still being in need of them and should our numbers keep growing we will have to consider shrinking our zone.
If we do not comply it has been indicated to our Senior Staff that there could be ramifications for their careers.
This is a fundamental change for our school and the staff were informed this afternoon. Our leadership team as you can image are quite disappointed in this outcome. It is extremely concerning and has real ramifications for gifted education within our state.
Please remember if your child in currently in our SEAL program they will be able to complete their time at BHHS. This change will be from Year 7 onward from next year.
Our main aim is to obviously keep BHHS on an even keel while we sort our all of the ramifications of these changes and ensure our children keep getting the best education that we can offer them.
The school will no doubt put out some more formal notification regarding this issue shortly.
Regards,
Marcus. |
