247 【Dark Peril】The pad of his finger traced over her mouth, brushed back and forth until she parted her lips. He pushed inside her mouth and instinctively she closed her lips around his finger, her tongue flicking over it, sucking before she could stop herself. Hot color swept into her face and she tried to turn her heads, but his hand spanned her throat, holding her still, his head slightly thrown back as if he was enjoying the sensation of her mouth around his finger. She stroked along his knuckle with her tongue, and followed as he slowly withdrew, so that she nibbled at the pad of his finger before he went back to tracing her lips. -- Christine Feehan.

249 【Little Women】Jo could not speak, and for several minutes there was no sound but the sigh of the wind and the lapping of the tide.  A white-winged gull flew by, with the flash of sunshine on its silvery breast.  Beth watched it till it vanished, and her eyes were full of sadness.  A little gray-coated sand bird came tripping over the beach 'peeping' softly to itself, as if enjoying the sun and sea.  It came quite close to Beth, and looked at her with a friendly eye and sat upon a warm stone, dressing its wet feathers, quite at home.  Beth smiled and felt comforted, for the tiny thing seemed to offer its small friendship and remind her that a pleasant world was still to be enjoyed. -- by Louisa May Alcottby

257 【The Importance of Living】People also enjoy themselves at first in parties where there are beautiful women and boys, where some beat the drum and others play the sheng and a lot of things are going on in the hall. But after the mood is past, one gets on the contrary, a sense of sadness. It is much better to light incense and open your book and sit quitely and leisurely, maintaining a calm of spirit, and the charm deepens as you go along. -- by Mingliaotse translated by Lin Yutang

258 【Far From the Maddening Crowd 】

"  The rose is red,
   The violet blue,
   Carnation's sweet,
   And so are you."

-  by Thomas Hardy

。。To the contrary of her suggested gesture of talking to anybody on site, she was sitting there merely musing within herself, continuously smoking for more than one hour (I returned in same period to find her still lounging in the same spot). The smoking wreaths, floating her overhead, were swirling up, slowly and mysteriously as if towards somewhere in the heaven. She reminded me of some awe-inspiring fortune-tellers, who claimed to have possessed the power of direct communicating with some spirits either in heaven or in hell, and could see your past, tell your future, or even cast your next life as so believed. If you have a good confidence in fate, 八卦(the Eight Diagrams), and astrology, you may regard her as a trustworthy companionship, at least from what she appears to be.

259 【Far From the Maddening Crowd 】It appears that ordinary men take wives because possession is not possible without marriage, and that ordinary women accept husbands because marriage is not possible without possession; with totally differing aims the method is the same on both sides. -- by Thomas Hardy

261.【Dead Roses】Days slipped easily away for Mrs Mortlock. Her island, balanced in its bubble, floated between seasons in an air which was neither hot nor cold. She clumped like an animal through the scrub. Or stalked birdlike over the sand. So deserted was her desert beach that she took off all her clothes once, without even looking over her shoulder, and walked into the milky sea. Exquisite skirts of foam clung to her ankles, and began to soothe her thighs. It was so gently perfect in the healing water that she closed her eyes.... by Patrick White

-- Everything about this girl seemed markedly appealing to me. Her fresh, succulent and plump features, especially her happy and rich lips, upon which the 四川-styled tingling hot spice must have sufficiently permeated and nourished, were presented before me a soul of utterly contentment and satisfaction; whilst regarding myself, who couldn’t help showing off a pretence of thoughtfulness and wistfulness from time to time, and who, though knowing the ultimate voidness of a life existence, tried many an effort of masturbating for a purpose of my earthly experience, should I be ashamed for looking at her and shy away, or merely gather my courage, and step up a hearty kiss on her lovely face?

262.【Dead Roses】The voice on the telephone as she booked the air ticket to her home city was so warm and masculine she was almost persuaded she had committed a willing adultery. -- by Patrick White

This hotel, located somewhere nearing the Chinatown in Melbourne, had an interesting name of ‘Hotel of Her Home’. As a male human creature, I confessed that I owned certain peculiar fancy of ‘Her Home’, which, in theory, should not overly contradict with the intrigue of many other male fellows in the world. Her home, a home of a female, a home of a gender to my only opposite and of my second indispensable half, was having a speculative weirdness that this home could make the partial of me complete in both body and spirit. Thus, acting upon an impulse not at all unnaturally bound, I moved from my previous, a great deal more grandly looking hotel to this new place, and started staying there for two days before virgin-blued back to Sydney. It was, as imagined and ascertained by the name, actually Her Home, and I lived in her home no less pleasantly and intimately than what her brother-in-law could have enjoyed. During every night of my two nights, the air in the hotel was surprisingly breezed by the ancient music of 梁山伯祝英台, which was played by the equally ancient Chinese instrument 二胡. Its melancholy and undulating melody so touched and soothed to the depth of my emotion that I imagined myself becoming Yang San Bo (洋三伯) in Australia, should a fashionable name was needed. I had to also remark that the dining chopsticks and spoons, as well as the toilet and bedding all illuminated off some quality of oily surface, which might be regarded by most to be rather unhygienic; but nevertheless, to me, it even gave more degree of homely reflection by a nostalgic looking back at my birth-place in Sichuang. Well, I didn’t try to ask for a discount of the hotel rate, as one might have wanted as a seemingly genuine relative of her; the fact was, on the contrary, I could have liked to pay more for my worthwhile lodging, if so asked by her. The only regret, I had to feel sorry to mention, was that there was no internet facility in the room to kick for my darling OUTSTEPS, therefore making me suffer from a shortage of energy within my piteous kidney.

263 【Far From the Maddening Crowd 】Now there was not a rustle, not a breeze, not the faintest clash of twigs to keep her company. -- by Thomas Hardy

。。 At about three o’clock in the morning, I arose from my bed, decided to take a walk along my usual walking path. Unusual as it was, of course, at this unusual time for a ghostlike walking, outside the snugged human dwellings. But I thought it better than tossing and turning myself restlessly and tiredly in the bed.  I didn’t bother changing my pyjama, for the chance of anybody still on the road watching my dull profile was presumably close to nothing. At most, some cars might pass along, but the drivers would likely be oblivious to objects on the sideways at such late hours, when their eyes were more inclined to look straight ahead, leading to their homely place where a day’s comfort was to be accommodated. So the human’s possible observation of ugly me was the least of my concern, and I was soon finding myself alone on the path. The wind was blowing heavily, revealing its sinister nature of wildness and hostility, as you could easily decipher from the ruffled leaves in this photo I had taken with my mobile. I rarely forgot bringing my beloved mobile with me in many of my small and big trips. It had even, literally, become my inseparable companion, since an old time I couldn’t exactly recall. It was, however, not the phone calls, nor the games, internet or whatever more fashionable inventions that had made me cherish such a working intimacy with it; the prime purpose was indeed to capture the images of various things, insects and the people, that might have a passing interest in my sight. But inwardly, I still couldn’t suppress a dismal feeling that, when snapping my human targets, I was more like a rogue, doing vulgar and distasteful activities in the public. And I had almost become obsessed with it, and could hardly make a willing and sensible correction against it. The only thing I can do is to pray not to be scolded or bashed by my victims in a crowd, until I am completely faded out of my life on earth. The bare twigs, and branches in the photo, as you can see, are fine and clear, yet its green leaves are rather blurred and dishevelled, like the human hair ruffled by the similar force of nature.  If only looking at the leaves, you would conclude it was poorly taken, without a focus or my hand failing to hold still the device; but I believe the left side of the story would remedy your judgement and come to understand it was the wind that had disturbed the scene.  There was no moon in the gloomy sky, and the lamp on the post was the only source of the luminousness, its paleness and loneliness silencing the empty street. I was grateful of the light, without which my mobile would be useless, and no picture could be taken but a complete darkness.  All the animals with a moving heart, seemed to be at sleep, the insects, birds, and the people except me, were entering their quiet and dead hours of a day’ life. My stepping sound on the path was barely audible, leaving the air solely and intermittently plagued by the whining of leaves, which were now in the absolute power of raking wind. The shadows on the ground were also restless, moving about ominously without a slightest clue how to still their soulless shape. The feeling was eerily strange, with only myself contemplating my own existence in the vast space. Somehow, upon some intervening moments, I felt fantastically exalted, as if owning the entire world, and no distance wedged between us; but at other moments, the world simply engulfed me, making me nothingness in its looming and merciless firmament.

264 【Far From the Maddening Crowd 】So down she sat, and down sat he, the fire dancing in their faces, and upon the old furniture, -- by Thomas Hardy

悉尼:它是花,也是果实;有那种色彩,也有那种形状 – 女人的乳房  -- Beyond doubt, it is a type of flower, a kind of fruit as well; but with the milky about and pink around, and from the shape and point where it sprouts, it is but a woman’s breast.

265 【The Plumed Serpent】 Plucking, plucking at the created soul in a man, till at last it plucked out the growing germ, and left him a creature of mechanism and automatic reaction, with only one inspiration, the desire to pluck the quick out of every living spontaneous creature. -- By D.W.Lawrence

。 -- The scribbling - written only by the hands of nature, using a wall of stone as a spread of paper, the spine of earth as the ridging strokes. The rain rinses it clean; the wind touches it clear; the sun tinges it with a hue; and the time mellows it, with a belief.

266 【The Plumed Serpent】 It was a blow, really. To be forty! One had to cross a dividing line. On this side there was youth and spontaneity and 'happiness.' On the other side something different: reserve, responsibility, a certain standing back from 'fun.' -- By D.W.Lawrence

267【The Fox】And as she did so, quick as lightning he kissed her on the mouth, with a quick, brushing kiss. It seemed to burn through her every fibre. She gave a queer little cry. – by D.W.Lawrence

照这个照片的时候,我还特意用我家的竹子作了背景,会不会又加了一点什么特别的感觉呢?-- The moon of last night was marvellously beautiful, making me utterly enchanted. There is a Chinese idiom, ‘Brilliant Moon in the Sky’ (not sure of the translating accuracy though), can be a close statement for the remarkableness of the night. There were also plenty of clouds, white and grey, thick and shallow, strewing the wide sky; the moon, pure and full, and complete, sailed through, varying its illumination between two extremities of darkness and brightness in its wake. When it was not effaced and thus nakedly exposed in the space, its light was almost flashing, peacefully flooding the earth and me with its cool and gracious silveriness, suspending any loneliness one could feel on the nightly occasion. Unlike the sun, the moon, even at its utmost illumination, would not dazzle your eyes, so you could gaze at her without having to frequently blinking your eyes, as if the moonlight itself was a perfect freshener moistening your pupils. Its fine and round and clear outline, its shadowy contour of hills within the plate, and the halo in the close distance, had, in their combined force of charm, arrested my extensive and complete beholding, making me almost mesmerized. Standing aloof, remotely and majestically in the sky, the moon was like a goddess glancing over the entire firmament, radiating a beauty which must have stimulated and commanded the very aspect of aesthetic imagination of mankind. But at this high brightness I couldn’t take a picture without overly exposing the camera of my mobile; I had to wait for some thin cloud moving over to slightly cover its face, to moderate its shine so as to be negated properly by the lens of camera. This picture was taken in this manner, with a deliberately added background of bamboo leaves in my garden, which I hope one may extract a little more exquisite moon-feeling in the bamboo company, being an element traditionally favoured by Chinese artistic sentiment.

268【The Fox】Banford, standing there in the middle of the room, suddenly burst into a long wail and a spasm of sobs. She covered her face with her poor, thin hands, and her thin shoulders shook in an agony of weeping. – by D.W.Lawrence

-- 看不同的哭法,a long wail, a spasm of sobs, an agony of weeping...

。-- Among the ghastly ashes, burning strenuously is the beautiful fire. Like a comet, like the lightning, it emits an essence in forms of worldly creatures, and kindles a passion in all earthly lives; it detests the ugly and the evil, despising falsity and hypocrisy; it clears the rubbish among human dwellers, and destroys the greed of demanding prayers.

269【Far From the Maddening Crowd 】Indeed, he seemed to approach the grave as a hyperbolic curve approaches a straight line--less directly as he got nearer, till it was doubtful if he would ever reach it at all. -- Thomas Hardy

。 -- They were just taken in this morning, in central coast where I was attending a conference, please enjoy it afresh. This crane, white-feathered, has a spectacular neck, long, slender, and almost folded in a fashion like a snake. The posture and stance she has performed in front of me, either of standing, or walking, or flying, exhibited such a pride and dignity that even the most conceited and haughtiest men and women in this world ought to fell humbled upon her presence.

270 【Aron's Rod】The child stood with her lip between her teeth, a look, half, of pure misery and dismay, half of satisfaction, on her pretty sharp face. -- by D. H. Lawrence.

。A single mushroom, forlorn yet wholesome and freer, a couple of mushrooms, beloved but clashed twisted and withering and struggling, out of heaps of rotted straws, in such a great Day of Valentines.

271 【Aron's Rod】He saw the fine, rich- coloured, secretive face of the Hebrew woman, so loudly self- righteous, and so dangerous, so destructive, so lustful--and he waited for his blood to melt with passion for her. -- by D. H. Lawrence.

。 -- This is absolutely horrible! Look at the two faceless women in this photo, I just can’t figure out how they could have come to my camera when my interest had been only in the stone stairs. I just realized it today when I browsed my archived photos. Can any of you help explain their existence, or are they really apparitions of some sorrowful ancient Chinese women whose souls couldn’t be peacefully settled, and who managed to reveal themselves in modern days? Believe me, I didn’t manipulate the picture in any means to trick you, you can simply check yourself on the fine edges of the figures and its background, and will easily come to a conclusion that this can’t possibly be a work of secondary processing unless it was done by high caliber professionals, and there is no reason for me to play the expensive joke. – a real, real puzzle.
