payroll 的发展其实主要在你个人的性格(当然其他行业也是这样),但payroll总的来说压力更大一些。对外跟legislation密切相关,是容易被audit的重点area,任何大的mistake不但会对公司经济上造成损失,有时还会在很大程度上damage公司的声誉。所以payroll是即涉及HR领域又涉及Finance领域。我所在的payroll professinal group前一些日子一直在讨论why it is necessary that payroll should hold both hands with Finance and HR。其实,payroll是一个联系着公司两个重要department的桥梁。对内由于你deal with most sensitive information - employees money, any mistake will cause lots of grievance.
所以,做payroll特别是payroll manager or stand alone payroll role除了要面临all difficulties作为新移民所要面临的。另一个重要因素是承受压力的能力,作为一个payroll manager or stand alone payroll role,与team leader的最大区别是you have to stand on your own feet and no one else you can lean on anymore。如果是accounting,账错了或business to business pay错了,adjust一下就行了,payroll sometime 就没这么简单了。另外一个重要因素是deadline非常明显,比accounting重要很多。还有就是confidentiality对payroll manager or stand alone payroll position也是非常大的challenge。举个例子,HR要redandunt一个人,一个一般的职位,HR先让payroll准备了redanduncy package,这个人的manager看过后同意了反馈给HR,HR Director 告诉了payroll manager。过一段时间要pay payroll 了, Payroll office 与HR coordinator 确认可不可以pay the redandunt to that person in the normal pay run to avoid the extra work if do outside pay run. Because HR director confirmed the package and HR coordinator confirmed it should be ok verbally。The drama result was that the person called payroll after he received the money and payslip - WHAT THE HECK PAYMENT WAS FOR??? The reason for that was his manager has forgotten communciate with him for redanduncies!!! Not surprisely the manager would take in that way, then blame on HR director that the redanduncy case has not finalized yet, why you already paid him?? HR director also would like to hold the dirty ball, then blame on payroll, why you paid without HR notification? Even payroll officer got the confirmation from HR coordinator but there was verbal confirmation nothing in writing - then it's time Payroll Manager had to stand out to take all the shxxxt and clear up the mess
这是众多的difficulties之一,如果you have to stand on your own feet, if you are ready for all those and you have very solid payroll knowledge and been payroll leader in large company, you can move to medium size company for payroll manager role then fly from there |
