10 m HDMI i used, but u have to consider ceiling hheight + projector distance from screen + some leeway so every room is different.
mine is 2.7 m ceiling + 4.5 m from screen + 3 m leeway = 10 m

surround cable is just naked but you can DIY to change it to banana plug, very easy

i have actually also pre wired 2 more cables hinding at rear of room in case i will need 7.1

the fixed screen is very easy to DIY assemble as well as very easy to disassemble, there are 4  pieces of aluminium bar connected by screw and bracket then a piece of fabric attached at the back  . but once assembled, the screen will be too big to move around and there will be no need to disassemble it unless u move house or something wrong with the screen

for designated  room like this  a fixed screen will be much preferred as any air movement( e.g. cooling / heating / people walk pass) in the room will not blow move the screen ( and hence the image), but for people having the screen in living room in front of a TV it will be neceaasry to use a pull down screen . i think most of the home theatre forum will suggest people to used fixed screen if possible like this: http://www.bigscreenforums.com/forum_topic.cfm?which=876

不好意思，想问个不太相关的问题。楼主的poster的框框在哪里买的啊。我自己搜集了很多poster，但是一直找不到合适的框框挂起来，觉得楼主的poster弄得好漂亮啊。

the district 9 poster is only $1 bought from VideoEzy
i bought the frame from ikea , but highpoint also has a picture frame shop where you can made to order, price is reasonable too.

yes it is ordinary brick veneer exterior wall with plaster interior wall. the only extra is the Bradford sundscreen plus R2.0 for internal wall and R2.5 for external wall i have put in.
the effect is ok ,better then none but you can still hear very loud in the bedroom behind the screen.
you will CSR Gyprock Soundchek ( multiple layers) or Boral Cinemazone to get a good reault.

i installed the projector, screen and rear speakers myself.
the prewiring of HDMI, rear speakers cable i hired the cable installer to do it costed few hundred dollars.
but you also need to consider cost of carpet and curtain( this can vary depending on how much u want to spend).
tv unit from harvey norman $550 on special
leather sofa ship from HK original cost ~$600
tub chair from target $80/chair
picture frame from ikea $60/frame
poster $1 dollar from videoezy

真是个不小的工程 现在还没出预算，不过肯定没LZ的这么豪华了，发烧不起啊  
沙发已经去了2千，估计最多再投入个3千吧，音响+投影仪+幕布请问有什么好推荐的？如果这边太贵的话也准备从中国买。LZ幕布在哪里买的多少钱呢？

may be you can ask smartadam as he is planning to buy AV amp and speakers from TAOBAO which is much cheaper ( but of course no local warranty)
i buy my projector and screen from here: http://www.ausmedia.com.au/ for $3100.
entry level 1080P projector: may be try sanyo z700 or epson tw3000 or simialr model. for 720p projector i have no idea sorry

好像1080p的都比较贵，要是720p便宜很多效果差不太多的话也可以考虑
音箱听LG说想买罗技最贵的那个好像也要500刀，方便接电脑嘛，毕竟大部分电影还是靠下载
我的投影室也差不多5m*4m，4m距离用多大的screen好呢？
你是住西边吗？是的话以后可以去参观一下啊

卡拉OK系统还是中国便宜，钱柜6TB歌库+一摸一样的点歌个系统也就2000澳币的事情
买来和功放一连，加个前级混响，装两个吊灯，就是KTV包房了。

there is about $800-1000 different between 720 p ( e.g. Epson TW700)and 1080p (e.g. Epson TW3500)entry level projector in Aus, see this:

you can go to just klapp or big picture people and ask to try 720p and 1080p projector then let your eye make the decision for you

if you are going to watch a lot of Bluray materials  or use it for some PS3 games a 1080p should be better

if you room is 5x4 m also i suggest put the screen on the 4m wall so you can have a 5 m long room. then you have to put the sofa may be 0.5m from the back wall as the rear speakers is ideally postioned slightly behind the viewer. also the effect of "sound enevlop" is better with the sofa away from rear wall.

i am using a 120 inch screen for 4.5m distance, u can visit this shop ( http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/) and ask to see their projector room , they have similar setting as my room.
