If you take the plunge, you decide to do something or commit yourself even though you know there is an element of risk involved. To begin an unfamiliar venture or start on a new and seemingly uncertain enterprise, especially after some hesitation.

例句: Dr Nelson took the plunge with a surprise move last night to throw open the opposition leadership in a display of decisivenss designed to catch his main opponent Malcolm Turnbull offguard as Mr Turnbull just returned from an oveaseas holiday in Italy on Sunday.
