to be a house wife or  a profession women...
it is really up to a lot of external issues.
first:  the single income have to be able to support the family, basic suvival requiremnet, without financial support, there won't be a choice of housewife on the list..
then it's really up to personal choices. people are different. some may like to stay home and make the house a better place... some are more into career chase...
personally  I'll respect on whatever her choice is, and provide the support that needed.
ps, I do believe it wiould be better the new born babies grow up with their own parent looking after them.  the grandparents are intent to spoil the kids, and sometime it is hard to put in the words to correction when there is elder gen involved. Not to mention all the good moment you would be missing if u r at work not with the baby...

Totally agree with Kinezox.

Between home and career, I chose to be a housewife.Luckily, I got the support from hubby. With the toddler around, it's so hard to leave her at CC and I could come to work without worrying about her. I love to be with my chubby little one, all the time. You know time goes so fast, and she will become a big girl soon and may not like to stay more time with me instead of her friends. Really cherish the time with her and enjoy the time to be a housewife at moment. However, may come to work some time when everything is ready. :)

I guess all families agree that kids growing with their own parents develope better both socially and emotionally. It's just some of the parents are unable to reach the best solution with all the financial and personal issues involved.

Each coin has two sides. I'm trying to compare these two merely because I'm facing the same dilemma here.

You are right. Support from hubby is extremely important to a woman no matter she's a working mum or housewife. If you don't mind me asking, have you ever set a time for yourself? Like at what age of your kid you might go out to work. Please don't get me wrong. I ask only because I'm thinking the same.

Haha, I didn't expect my passion towards such love stories to be shared by many others especially guys. As high as 98% of Twilight audience are female in some cinemas. Well, also I do not usually watch movies for educational purpose, mainly for entertainment actually. For this movie and books, I only love it because of the story and of course, the good looking characters,:).
Love can be very powerful and inspiring. It is what get us going! Hehe, again, I am a woman after all.

Momotaba, you are not getting old only because you want to learn all the time. On the contrary, this proves you are still young! For me, I used to do what you do and now i am old enough and suddenly i realized that life is too short and I want to enjoy it. I would like to separate my professional life and personal life. I can be pretty different at work.Haha.lucky i work only a little so I spend most of my day relaxing, exploring my hobbies, sometimes doing a bit volunteering. I guess I am not the ambitious kind. I really respect people with the high spitrit all the time. You guys are the ones that will get older and wiser. Me, only older, haha.

Haha, Mia, thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate that!

First of all I have to say I did not want to pick on you or give you a hard time. I just felt lately our posts here were a tiny bit boring. I want to generate some healthy and robust discussion here and to make it interesting. Nothing personal here! We are all friends here I think even we did not see each other. I hope you can understand that.

I envy you for the fact that you can spend most of your day relaxing, exploring you hobbies and sometimes doing a bit volunteering. That is fantastic and that is what is so called work life balance. So you have achieved that. Good on you!

I have to say I am on my way in that regard. I will get there eventually I hope.

Ok, let's change topic. We have another Public holiday coming next Wednesday Anzac day. So what is your plan for that day? Any volunteers want to share your plan? Come on guys and gals, you can do it!

We certainly can do something on Wednssay! I do not have any plans yet. I recently went to Chillipadi in Watergarden to eat. It is a nice place for get-togethering I reckon.  They give you a big candle bowl in the middle of table, pretty cool. Or we cna do something else. What is your idea? Though, still I do not know how many people we can gather. I will ask around if we go ahead.

I'm a karaoke fan. I am so fancy of singing that I could sing at home by myself for a few hours. I remember when I visited my parents in China, on the New Years day they went to visit all relatives and friends and had to leave me alone at home. They worried about me being alone, so they recommended me singing karaoke at home. Once I started I hadn' stopped until my neighbour knocked on my door and asked to join me, as they explained they were so emotional to sing after lisening to my singing for hours. I guess it was the best way to stop me after a long terrible boring time bearing with me. :)

I have read page 1, 14 and 15, and found you guys' english levels were really high for me. Did you guys come to Australia at very early age? Because all of  your writings seem are so Aussie to me !

Sometimes I wonder if the Chinese like me,coming to Australia at 28, have possibility to catch up with the people coming to Australia at young age. Although I keep convincing myself giving up all of the negative idea, with the increase of my age, I feel that my memory was not so good as before, and I do feel harder to improve english to some certain level.

In my company, I am good at all types of data and model analysing , but my writing is not good enough, so my boss would not like me to write proposals for company. I feel sad but have to accept the fact. Sometimes I think, should I just give up to have baby? The next generation's lifes will be much easier than mine.  But what is my life's meaning? Giving up and transfer my hope to my children ?

I remember I heard a story long time ago. A chinese aircraft engineer about 50 years old, who couldn't understand forenigner expert's class, commenced  to learn english for one hour everyday from 5am before he started to work. After one year, he didn't have big problem to understand  them anymore even if he still had strong accent and writing problem. He is DaoLong Zhong, the creator of reverse english listening method. I always use his story to remind myself that I just need to stick up on english and never stop fighting. If I did waste lots of time in past, I need find my time back now.

Loser always give up and winner never quit.

I fully agree with  you that "Loser always give up and winner never quit". You are young enough to learn whatever you are interested and to change whenever you want. when I was 28, I thought I was too old for this world. However with time goes by, I realize how naive I was. Cherish the youth and you will be a winner. You are welcome to drop in some words in this thread and we may learn from each other.

I certainly did not come to Australia at early age.

But I did have english as my major when I was at Uni in China and that would help me a bit. But I have to admit that I am still learning new words or phrases every single day. To me it is a process. If you want to improve your english, you need to do it on a daily basis, for example reading a news paper, having a conversation with people whose first language is english.

Don't underestimate yourself. Your english is good. You just need to have a bit more confidence in you. You can do it! Come here more and write something in english here.

It is good in a sense that you did realise you probably need to improve your writing skills. That is a good starting point. My suggestion is to buy some books about writing skills and learn from it.

All the very best to you! Welcome here to the English corner (that is what I call it)!: victory:

I think it is normal when come to a new country with new eviroments and language to catch up. especially you have to write highly  professional documents regarding your work. there is a lot of technical wording that you son't be able to contact with  while you are doing the same job in china. so there is certainly a gap to catch up. In your case, i think the simillar technical journal will be a lot of help. also always remember, you can only achive improvement by actully doing it. So don't be affraid of writing stuff, doing every opputunity that you have...

How did it go?

Thanks for asking floraz! It went very well.

Initially we expected we would have 5 people but it turned out that we only had three people managed to show up including myself.

I have to say it must have something to do with the wet weather on Wednesday and it was very cold on that day.

Anyway, three of us had good time there and we started around 1:30 pm and we ended up leaving around 6 pm. So it was a good day out. I like it.

Hopefully I will attend the future one if people organise it again and you can come along if you want to.

To be honest with you, I am not really good at Karoke either.

But I think what important is that it gives you an opportunity to get to know other people and make friends. So that is the other reason why I want to be part of it.

So don't be shy, next time if someone organises it just come along. You will like it!

I am about to say that I have had a thread about favourite songs and you beat me to it. Anyway here is the link for that post:

http://www.oursteps.com.au/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=474781

This topic is fantastic but I think to say my favourite songs in english is a bit hard. Because I will resort to Pin yin as it is extremely difficult to translate the name of a chinese song to english word for word.

I guess even I do you will have no clue what songs I am talking about.

So if you want to know my favourite songs, click the hyperlink above and you will find the answer easily. Enjoy!

I love Hero too.
Mariah Carey has such a great voice.
I remeber listening to Hero on my way to school to have my VCE exams and it helped me to chill out

Wonderful Tonight and Now and Forever are two classic songs I like, among others.

I love you are wonderful tonight as well. The lyrics of the song are wonderful as it captures the details of our life.

People can relate to that song as it did happen in their real life. Very romantic!

But I only heard it from a singer called Fang da tong ; I am not sure if people heard of him before. His version is not bad either.

I have to admit I still love Chinese songs more than any other songs. I guess it is a culture thing. Anyway, that is just me. People are more than welcome to enjoy english songs and I have no issues with that.
