90. But it seems to him, woman was always so horrible and clutching, she had such a lust for possession, a greed of self-importance in love. She wanted to have, to own, to control, to be dominant. Everything must be refered back to her, to Woman, the Great Mother for everything, out of whom proceeded everything and to whom everything must finally be rendered up. -- D. H. Lawrence [Women in Love]

91. On the whole, he hated sex, it was such a limitation. It was sex that turned a man into a broken half of a couple, the woman into the other broken half. And he wanted to be single in himself, the woman single in her self. He wanted sex to revert to the level of the other appetites, to be regarded as a functional process, not as a fulfilment. He believed in sex marriage. But beyond this, he wanted a further conjunction, where man had being and woman had being, two pure beings, each constituting the freedom of the other, balancing each other like two poles of one force, like two angels, or two demons. -- D. H. Lawence [Women in Love]

She wants to absorb him. She wants to draw him out and absorb him till there is nothing left of him, ever for himself. He will never be a man on his own feet – she will suck him up.’ So the mother sat, and battled and brooded bitterly. -- D.H.[Sons and lovers]

99. In the old age, before sex was, we were mixed, each one a mixture. The process of singling into individuality resulted in the great polarisation of sex. The womanly drew to one side, the manly to the other. But the separation was imperfect even then. And so our world-cycle passes. There is now to come to the new day, where we are beings each of us, fulfilled in difference. The man is pure man, the woman the pure woman, they are perfectly polarised. But there is no longer any of the horrible merging, mingling, self-abnegation of love. There is only the pure duality of polarisation, each one free from any contamination of the other. In each, the individual is primal, sex is subordinate, but perfectly polarised. Each has a single, separate being, with its own laws. The man has his pure freedom, the woman hers. Each acknowledges the perfection of the polarised sex-circuit. Each admits the different nature in the other.  -- D. H. Lawence [Women in Love]

Bobby's [out of the people who try to offer their services] was the most brazen, the most downright immodest......"I'm not just good at what I do. I am brilliant at what I do".....[the next day]......"Figuring that you probably threw away the letter you received from me yesterday, here it is again. Let's make money, Dave [the protagonist]".....Just as I wasn't swayed when he sent me a case of Au Bon Climat wine.....and then a week later, a case of Dom Perignon arrived......"You'll be drinking this stuff like 7-up if you let me make you some real money"....  - Temptation by Douglas Kennedy

Madame Bollinger:"I drink it when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it—unless I’m thirsty."。当然,她是BOLLINGER的老板娘。

5. Tears spilled down the man's cheeks and dropped to the moss below, where they lay un-absorbed, like pearls strewn across a blanket of emerald velvet.   -- Christopher Paolini  [Eragon] 儿童读物

that just made me think of the below lines from a song:

Summer turned to winter
And the snow it turned to rain
And the rain turned into tears upon your face
I hardly recognize the girl you are today
And God I hope it's not too late
It's not too late

from Michael Buble's  'Lost'.

I nearly cried in my car when I heard these words, stuck in the traffic and watching the sunset after a long day from work.

今早上班途中, 车窗外 -- The sky is blue, the birds trailing, the flowers, and colours shuffling and flashing through ...车里,正好放一首歌【My Love】-- when the singer, in his masculine voice, bursts ‘WHERE THE SKIES ARE BLUE, TO SEE YOU ONCE AGAIN.. MY LOVE!’,  a dam of pleasure, hidden and nowhere a moment ago, suddenly cracks, setting free a flood of sensuous joy, striking the surface of me, in and out.....I detour, and slip with my car into a road at ease, lowering the glass, sighting and blinking at the earthy things and creatures, that flow to me….. being enchanted, and perfectly absorbed by the force of the once-a-time spontaneous beauty … I turn the volume to its peak, and let free my innate nativity, be soaked and soothed and drenched in the richest sound of blue sky, and my love….I stifle, and moderate my breath, as slowly and silently as the beauty is to last… -- it is such a rarity of my morning!

Here is the lyric of the song, may you - my love and my friend - listen to it, first time or ever again, in the beheld moments of Australian spring --

【My Love】

by NYLEN, PER / KREUGER, DAVID BENGT / ELOFSSON, JORGEN KJELL / MAGNUSSON, PER

An empty street, an empty house
A hole inside my heart
I’m all alone, the rooms are getting smaller.
I wonder how, I wonder why, I wonder where they are
The days we had, the songs we sang together.

And all my love, I’m holding on forever
Reaching for the love that seems so far

So I say a little prayer
And hope my dreams will take me there
Where the skies are blue, to see you once again… my love.
Where the skies are blue, to see you once again… my love.
All the seas from coast to coast
To find the place I love the most
Where the fields are green, to see you once again.. my love

I try to read, I go to work
I’m laughing with my friends
But I can’t stop to keep myself from thinking.
I wonder how, I wonder why, I wonder where they are
The days we had, the songs we sang together

And all my love, I’m holding on forever
Reaching for the love that seems so far

So I say a little prayer
And hope my dreams will take me there
Where the skies are blue, to see you once again.. my love.
And the seas from coast to coast
To find the place I love the most
Where the fields are green, to see you once again…

To hold you in my arms
To promise you my love
To tell you from the heart
You’re all I’m thinking of

I think he (Lawrence) feels repulsive only to the negative side of a couple's life, which is a rather confined, pigeon-hole like dwelling; he is not in the least against the romantic element as such you have mentioned here.
